CAIR-Columbus Presents about Islam and Culture to Sixth Grade Social Studies Students

(COLUMBUS, OH, 12/13/2019) – On Wednesday, December 4, CAIR-Columbus Administration and Communications Coordinator Mahnoor Khan

spoke to Metro Early College Middle and High School sixth grade social studies students about Islam’s influences on culture.

As part of the social studies unit about world regions and religions, Metro sixth grade classes invited various speakers to present on their respective religion and culture. Khan’s presentation discussed how culture is different from religion, the ways in which culture affects how religion is perceived and practiced, and traces of Islam that are ever-present in various cultures and countries around the world.

While linking Islam to customs of etiquette, histories of innovation, and beautiful works of art, Khan also touched on common misconceptions many people may hold about Islam and the Muslim world.
