(COLUMBUS, OH, 6/26/19) – On Wednesday, June 19, CAIR-Columbus was in Washington, D.C. for the Capitol Hill Advocacy Day to urge Congress to take action against the oppression of the Uyghurs, the Rohingya, and other minorities. Government Affairs and Development Coordinator Usjid Hameed represented CAIR-Columbus in four congressional meetings.
The event, which was organized by Burma Task Force and the Faith Coalition to Stop Genocide in Burma, drew attendees from around the country.
Attendees urged members of Congress to support:
• S. 178/ H.R. 649, the “Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019”;
• S. 1186, the “Burma Human Rights Act 2019”;
• H.R. 3190, the “Burma United through Rigorous Military Accountability Act”; and
• Amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act which would pressure the Burmese government to stop with its oppression of the Rohingya.
