(COLUMBUS, OH, 12/11/2019) – On Friday, November 22, CAIR-Columbus Government Affairs and Development Coordinator Usjid Hameed spoke at the Annual Benefit Dinner of The Muslim Students’ Association at Ohio State.
The purpose of the annual event is to raise funds for organizations working on pressing social justice issues. This year’s event focused on criminal justice reform. All proceeds went to the Ohio Juvenile Justice Coalition, an organization that advocates for youth involved in the juvenile justice system, and the Believer’s Bailout, an organization that provides bail for Muslims in pretrial incarceration and ICE custody.
Hameed participated in a panel discussion about criminal justice reform. He discussed the issue of profiling by the FBI, the importance of electing reform-minded prosecutors, and more.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. The CAIR-Ohio affiliate has three chapters in Ohio – Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Their mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
