(Columbus, OH, 1/25/17) – On Thursday, January 26, the Council on American-Islamic-Relations, Columbus chapter, an office of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will hold a news conference with other non-profit, refugee rights groups, civic & faith leaders to offer reactions to recent and upcoming executive orders signed by President Donald Trump.
These orders are expected to restrict immigration from Syria and six other Middle Eastern and African countries, temporarily ban most refugees from entry to the United States, and halt the Syrian refugee program indefinitely. The orders signed today will increase the deportation of undocumented immigrants and begin the construction of a wall on the U.S. – Mexico border. The orders will be the actual implementations of several highly controversial campaign promises by then candidate Donald Trump such as the ‘Muslim Ban’ and the border wall with Mexico.

CAIR-Columbus Director Jennifer Nimer said: “Such executive orders are un-American and stand in stark contrast to our nation’s core values. It is our duty to welcome refugees and immigrants and to recognize the tremendous value that these individuals add to our nation. These orders do nothing more than further divide the people of the United States and reinforce bigotry, islamophobia, xenophobia, and hate.”
