(COLUMBUS, OHIO, 9/20/2022) – Last Friday, CAIR-Ohio participated in a press conference at the Ohio Statehouse ahead of the next congressional map deadline, which the Ohio Redistricting Commission chose to ignore.

“Yet another court-ordered deadline is missed in violation of Ohio Law. As a civil rights organization, we see every day how ordinary citizens, workers, educators, and black, brown, and immigrant families, are unjustly held to a higher standard of the law than our lawmakers and elected officials in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities. Ohioans deserve better,” said Amina Barhumi, Acting Executive Director, CAIR-Ohio.

During the press conference, coalition members displayed a long scroll with every missed mapping deadline by the commission since Ohio’s redistricting process began in 2021.

CAIR-Ohio is a proud member of the Equal Districts Coalition, a group of over 30 Ohio advocacy organizations and labor unions engaged in the redistricting process.
