Watch Out for COVID-19 Scams

beware of covid-19 scams

This information was released by the Ohio Department of Health on April 28, 2020.  For additional information, please visit the Ohio Covid Portal.

During this time of COVID-19, there has been an increase in support to keep you safe and healthy. However, there has also been an increase in crime. Watch out for scams related to COVID-19. Scammers will attempt to trick you into giving them your personal information or your money.  Scammers will pretend to be a trusted person or company, like a government office or a utility company.   Never give your social security number or bank account information.  The government will not contact you by phone about “stimulus checks” or about tax money that you owe. Anyone claiming to do this is trying to trick you.  Ignore offers for medical equipment, vaccinations, cures, or home test kits for COVID-19. There are no products proven to prevent or treat COVID-19 at this time.   Lastly, as businesses in Ohio begin to reopen, it’s important that you know that Covid-19 is still spreading and very dangerous.  You are now required to wear a mask before you enter many businesses.  You are permitted to leave your home for work and other essential business, but should otherwise avoid leaving your home. Keep social distancing at 6ft apart.
